British composer SIR Andrew Lloyd Webber has been made an honorary citizen of Hungary in recognition of his contribution to music.
Lloyd-Webber's musicals are popular in the European country. His soccer-inspired show THE BEAUTIFUL GAME is due to open in the capital Budapest soon, following the success of the Hungarian adaptation of Phantom Of The Opera.
Authorities are even considering naming a Budapest street after him.
A spokesman from the Hungarian embassy says, "Lord Lloyd-Webber has helped revive our cultural life."
The love affair between the two is a mutual one - Lloyd Webber was once so impressed with a 12-piece gypsy band he heard in a Budapest restaurant he flew them all to England to perform for him again.
