The former fighter offered to train Edgar Ramirez, who portrays Duran in the film, and de Armas travelled with him to soak up the boxer's life.

"We went to Panama and spent time with the family," the Cuban actress tells WENN. "They were so loving and they wanted to share everything with us.

"It was amazing to see how supportive they were and the whole of Panama was with us, in that Edgar was the right person to play their hero."

And Ana was stunned with how beloved Duran is in his homeland: "Everyone knows him," she adds. "Everyone has a story with him, everyone has a photo. People have in their living rooms paintings of Duran on the walls. He's a true hero."
