Barry Manilow Returns To The Stage After Hospitalisation

  • 15 February 2016

The Mandy star was rushed to hospital after a concert in Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday (11Feb16) due to complications stemming from "emergency oral surgery" three days before.

He postponed a few tour dates, and it was uncertain if he would be well enough to appear at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Monday night (15Feb16) until his surprise appearance at the music mogul's party.

He performed a rendition of his classic hit Mandy, and Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart, a duet with video footage of the late actress Judy Garland, from his My Dream Duets record.

According to Billboard.com, he told the audience, "I'm really glad to be here. What a week!... This is the 40th anniversary of the release of Mandy - and the beginning of this beautiful party."

Davis admits he drafted in Carly Simon to replace Manilow as he "didn't know until today if he would perform".

Simon, who had stepped in to perform with two days notice, also sung You're So Vain.

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger, and former bandmates Harry Styles and Zayn Malik were among the celebrities in the audience at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

A representative for Manilow, who had been on vocal rest between Friday (12Feb16) and the show, also announced on Facebook.com he would be resuming his tour in Houston, Texas on Wednesday (17Feb16).

The post reads, "Barry is recuperating and will see everyone in Houston on February 17th, Dallas on February 18th, and Wichita on February 19th."

He is nominated for best traditional pop vocal album for My Dream Duets at the Grammys.
