Amber Riley has become the latest star to pay tribute to Whitney Houston by performing her song 'I Will Always Love You' on the latest episode of the hit musical drama 'Glee,' aired on Valentine's Day. Jennifer Hudson led the tributes on Sunday at the Grammy Awards with her own cover of it, a simple, stripped back version that seemed to gain plaudits from all present despite Hudson perhaps not being the most obvious choice to pay homage to the late singer.
Now, Riley is the latest to give the song a typically belting version as one might expect from the loud lunged 'Glee' cast member. People Magazine reports that the episode centred around an assignment for the Glee clubbers to sing romantic songs, during which Riley's character Mercedes has a realization about the football player she's currently dating, going on to admit to him that she had cheated. Apparently viewing this action as a mere manifesto of an undercurrent of negative feeling surrounding the relationship, Mercedes tells her boyfriend that she doesn't want to be in a relationship with him anymore before singing the Whitney classic as he walks away.
Of Hudson's version, Riley also seemed a fan, tweeting "That was absolutely beautiful Jennifer Hudson. Absolutely beautiful! Made me smile. Great tribute." The 'Glee' star turns 26 today.
