The Emmy-winning actor passed away in Connecticut on 16 November (15), aged 77.

He was best known for playing twins Adam and Stuart Chandler from 1983 until 2010 in the U.S. soap opera, and a number of actors who also found fame on the show have paid tribute to Canary on Twitter.com.

Gellar writes, "#rip #DavidCanary You were the epitome of class. It was a joy and an honor to call you a colleague. #AllMyChildren" while actress-turned-TV host Ripa, who played Canary's onscreen daughter, adds, "So sad to learn of the passing of the great David Canary. A incredibly talented actor. A wonderful man. I was lucky to know you."

Duhamel posts, "The great David Canary will be missed. Great actor and an absolute gentleman," while former Desperate Housewives star Dana Delany writes, "Had the honor of working with the deeply talented & kind David Canary,1983 Off-Bway (Broadway) Blood Moon. Forever grateful", and TV host Andy Cohen adds, "RIP David Canary. I was such a fan of his from #AllMyChildren. A great actor and he seemed like a lovely man."
