Alicia Silverstone is in negotiations to star in 'Butter'.

The comedy movie - directed by Jim Field Smith - tells the tale of an adopted youngster in Iowa who discovers a talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious woman in a local competition.

Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell and Ashley Greene are also said to be involved in the project, according to Production Weekly.

Jason A. Micallef wrote the screenplay for the movie, which is due for release in 2012.

Alicia's film career peaked in 1995 when she played the role of Cher in 'Clueless'.

Since then she has performed in a number of moderately successful movies including 'Batman and Robin' in 1997, 'Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed' in 2004 and most recently in comedy 'Elektra Luxx'.

In 2011 she is due to reunite with 'Clueless' director Amy Heckerling for romantic comedy 'Vamps' alongside Sigourney Weaver and Krysten Ritter.

The 33-year-old star was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in TV series 'Miss Match' in 2003.
