The music mogul, who discovered the No One singer and helped launch her career more than 15 years ago, will be this year's guest of honour at Alicia's fundraiser in New York.

The 13th annual Black Ball at the Hammerstein Ballroom on 19 October (16) will benefit Keys' charity, Keep a Child Alive, which supports HIV and AIDS victims in Africa and India.

Patti Smith and A$AP Rocky will perform at the event.

Choosing Davis as the recipient of this year's humanitarian award, Alicia says she's honouring the 84-year-old for his "long-standing commitment in the fight against AIDS".

Davis is also credited with launching the careers of Whitney Houston, Patti Smith, and Barry Manilow, among others.
