Algernon Doll Premieres New Single 'Candy Striped'

Algernon Doll - Spilt Milk Perfume

Glasgow guitarist and singer Algernon Doll (aka Ewan Grant) unveils a new single, 'Spilt Milk Perfume', ahead of the release of his new album 'Omphalic' due out June 9th 2014 through Struggletown Records.

The accompanying black and white video, directed by Tom Mitchell, is brimming with bizarre metaphor and begins with a man sat smoking while looking troubled. He then starts splashing his face in a bathroom wash basin of what appears to be milk, before looking disturbed as he then urinates and vomits milk. Towards the end, he is seen lying on a floor covered in split glasses of milk. It's a guitar heavy track that's maintains a softness with its liveliness until breaking into some chaotic riffing as the video gets more and more disturbing and kaleidoscopic. It's an artistic venture between the song and the video and the two mediums complement each other perfectly.

Algernon Doll is known for repeatedly altering his unique sound and this new album is no exception. As well as this to look forward to, you'll also get to see him headlining a show at The Glad Café, Glasgow on March 20th 2014 in association with Pulse Community Radio. He'll be playing alongside Scottish trio Poor Things and solo musician Lovers Turn to Monsters.

Algernon Doll - Son Of A Gun Brother To None

Glaswegian solo artist Algernon Doll (aka Ewan Grant) releases his brand new single 'Son Of A Gun Brother To None' in celebration of the release of his debut album 'Camomile' out now on Newtown Products records.

The accompanying video is appropriately melancholic; a black and white, super slow motion series of simple images of trees, fields, a woman and a man smoking, all telling what looks to be a love story that's taken a turn for the worst. The misery of the track is reflected through the frequent and often jarring use of minor notes coupled with Ewan's lingering, shaky, almost tearful vocals.

Being part of musical family, it's not surprise that Ewan chose this path in order to express himself and, having suffered from a variety of mental illnesses including series anxiety disorders and manic depression, he certainly had a lot of emotion he needed to release. This goes far in explaining the intense depths his songwriting plunges to on his new album produced by Tom Mitchell (Black Channels, The Barents Sea). Algernon Doll has done various shows supporting an array of different artists including indie/punk artist Franz Nicolay, folk singer Chris T-T and soul artist Willis Earl Beal.

Algernon Doll - Spiral Sounds

Melancholic indie artist Algernon Doll (the musical project of Ewan Grant) releases the video for his latest single 'Spiral Sounds' taken from his debut album 'Camomile' which is due out on November 26th 2012 through Newtown Products.

The video features someone walking with a handheld camera filming various bits of the world around him; trees, bridges, buildings, litter; to convey his feelings on how he sees the world differently to everyone else. The song is a characteristically lo fi and gloomy indie track with Algernon Doll's lingering vocals injecting a deep pain in the music alongside rather chaotically mixed electronic, guitar and drum sounds.

It's particularly symbolic given Grant's recent suffering from anxiety and bipolar disorder; and illness characterised by feeling a disturbing sense of chaos and disorder in the world and one's own mind. His poignant songwriting has earned him support slots with artists such as Franz Nicolay, Chris T-T, Esperi and Willis Earl Beal.
