Alfred Hitchcock's eerie The Birds is the latest classic heading for a remake.

Pearl Harbor director Michael Bay and Hollywood heavyweight Peter Guber are working on the revamped version of the 1963 thriller, according to trade paper THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The new version is based on a short story by DAPHNE DU MAURIER, which inspired Hitchcock's original movie.

TIPPI HEDREN starred in the 1963 thriller about vicious birds that terrorise a small town.

The film marks a renewed interest in Hitchcock's classics in Hollywood - PSYCHO was remade in 1998, A Perfect Murder was a retelling of his DIAL M FOR MURDER and there are plans to rework the British director's STRANGERS ON A Train.
