Alexandra Burke, the British R&B singer and former winner of the X Factor, was forced to hire "police protection" after receiving online death threats. Burke was snapped this week putting on a brave face for the launch of her new lip-gloss range, despite the menacing posts on Twitter.
Burke was surrounded by extra security at the launch after receiving online messages that included "I'm coming, and I'll murder you!" and "I'm going to kill you tonight, gonna stab you". The Twitter user's accounts has since been suspended, though some of Burke's close friends and family managed to reply to the mystery tweeter, with her brother David responding, "'I'll be there tonight, I Dare you to try bring harm to Alex... And see what will happen! Don't f**k with us". Refusing to take any chances, Alex's management hired extra security for the event at the Rose Club in London, and police officers met the star outside the venue. Despite the drama, there were no reported incidents and Alexandra stole the show with wet look leggings and a velvet top. She was even joined by her rumoured boyfriend Jermaine Defoe.
Speaking after the event, Burke told Twitter followers, "Had an amazing time at my launch tonight! Thanks 2everyone who came out and supported me. Means so much. Tonight was unreal. I'm so happy!" adding, "Tear in my eye. I'm proud of myself. For once I can actually say it... so much2those who have supported me all the way. My heart is yours". Of the death threats, her spokesperson added, "Alex is fine. There was no drama and the launch went really well. The police will be looking into the abusive tweets."
