Actor Alexander Skarsgard has vowed to triumph over British royal Prince Harry when they are pitched against each other in a charity trek to the South Pole.

The True Blood star will lead one of the international teams of wounded war veterans in the race, going up against a group led by the prince and another commanded by The Wire star Dominic West.

Skarsgard has now spoken about his involvement in the trek, promising to cross the finish line before the British royal.

He tells People.com, "I'm pretty stubborn and motivated and I don't give up easily. I'm very focused and we're not going to lose!.. I'm very excited to meet him. I'll be with my U.S. teammates at the South Pole welcoming him. I'll be happy to see him when he arrives. We will be there first though!"

The 208-mile (335-kilometre) challenge, which kicks off in November (13), will raise money for charities which help wounded soldiers, and Skarsgard admits he deeply admires Prince Harry for championing such good causes.

He adds, "I'm going to give him a high five when I meet him... I admire him for being involved with Walking with the Wounded for a couple of years and taking the time to help wounded soldiers. It's going to be an honour to meet him."
