Alexa Ray Joel has defended her mum Christie Brinkley over allegations the singer's hospital visit last month (Dec09) was prompted after a "dysfunctional" vacation with the supermodel.
The young star, whose father is Billy Joel, was admitted to St. Vincent's hospital in New York after experiencing breathing difficulties while taking homeopathic medication Traumeel.
She reportedly took the medication in a bid to cope with a bout of severe depression after splitting from her boyfriend.
A U.S. newspaper speculated the 23 year old had "tried to kill herself" with pills following a series of bitter arguments with her mum while they were on a family holiday - a report the Piano Man and his former wife promptly dismissed in a joint statement.
Now the recovered singer/songwriter has heaped praise on her parents, insisting they played no part in the ordeal.
In a message posted on her Facebook.com page, Joel writes, "My Mom & Dad are my role models and best friends. What I was struggling with had nothing to do with them. The press was particularly harsh on my Mother, which is unthinkable to me, because she is the kindest woman I've ever known, and wouldn't hurt a fly!!"
