Alex Kingston has been ditched from hit American TV drama ER after seven years, because she's too old.
The 41-year-old British star also says producers have axed her character DR ELIZABETH CORDAY, because on a $4.1 million (GBP2.3 million)-a-year salary - she was too expensive for them to keep
Kingston snipes, "According to the producers I am part of the old fogeys who are no longer interesting.
"I understand that it needs to keep reinventing itself in order to keep going.
"But I'm sure there must have been some financial feelings behind the decision. I know the newcomers aren't getting much at all."
Kingston also clashed with ER bosses about how her character should leave the show.
She adds, "They were planning to get me involved with yet another man and I'm already juggling two."
But she leaves the multi-award winning programme with happy memories: "ER changed my life. It's been extraordinary.
"I don't think any of us who've been in the show will be in something that was such a phenomenal success ever again.
"Aside from the past few years I've had the most fantastic time. I really loved it."08/06/2004 02:47
