The 58-year-old actor will be joined by his nearest and dearest and several of his co-stars at Harlem’s Apollo Theater on 25 June (17), for the special which will air on 9 July (17).

The black tie event will combine comedy, film clips, music and funny stories, as well as several surprises.

But Alec is feeling understandably apprehensive about the evening, which is described as "Part This Is Your Life, part Dean Martin Roast" - particularly about the personal tales that will be told about him.

“I am dreading this. I am truly dreading this. But if Tracy Morgan is coming, it’ll be okay. Is Tracy coming?” Alec joked.

Other stars who have been recognised in the One Night Only series, which “celebrates the true legends of comedy — those who have shaped generations with their groundbreaking styles", include Eddie Murphy and Don Rickles.

And Casey Patterson, executive producer of the special, believes Alec is the perfect choice to be featured in the programme.

"Alec is an original and one of the greats. Heroic, complicated, legendary, brilliant, and hilarious,” he explained. “When we spoke about this event he said ‘you overestimate the number of friends I have’ and I replied ‘you underestimate the number of people that will line up to have fun at your expense.’ It will be that kind of night: love and laughs.”

30 Rock star Alec has been hitting headlines in recent months thanks to his spot-on impersonation of U.S. President Donald Trump on sketch show Saturday Night Live.

His versatile and lengthy career has seen him presented with numerous awards, including three Golden Globes, two Emmys and eight Screen Actors Guild Awards.
