Celebrated British playwright SIR Alan Ayckbourn has slammed the Hollywood film stars who are becoming the main attraction on London's West End stages.

The acclaimed scribe has pledged to quit his beloved art form if superstars like Madonna, Ewan McGregor and Gwyneth Paltrow continue to appear in theatre productions.

He moans, "Although there have been some success as with Al Pacino, there are others like Madonna who shouldn't be on stage.

"She couldn't be heard, she simply is not an actress. Even when Ewan McGregor was on in the West End with LITTLE MALCOLM AND HIS STRUGGLE AGAINST THE EUNUCHS, people were left very disappointed."
