Adrien Brody is relieved filming on new movie King Kong is over - because he was battered and bruised in his most active role to date.

The Academy Award-winning actor's initial hopes of special effects and camera trickery saving him from physical harm were quickly dashed when he realised there is no way to take on a giant gorilla and come out unscathed.

He says, "Bruises, lacerations, soreness. Everyday I was hanging off trees.

"It was filmed against a blue screen but, when you fall, you fall on concrete. There are bulldozers, splashing waves. It's a construction site.

"It's a hard hat environment and you're wearing a wet silk shirt and dress shoes, running through the jungle like you're being chased by a giant gorilla."
