The star, who played bully-turned-singer Puck in TV series Glee, was arrested on Tuesday (29Dec15) following a raid on his home in Sunland, California, where police officers reportedly seized computers containing images of child porn.
He was released on $20,000 (£13,300) bail ahead of a court date on 22 January (16), and the controversy has prompted filmmaker Shankar to reevaluate Salling's part in his movie, which is currently in post-production.
The director admits the scandal has made him consider recasting the 33-year-old's role as a villain, but he will only be taking action if the charges stick.
"I won't feed our growing pitchfork culture," Shankar tells TheWrap.com about his decision to stand by Salling for the time being. "I'm going to wait for all the facts to arrive and if in fact these allegations are true, I will immediately take action, which includes removing his scenes from the project."
Representatives for Salling have yet to comment on his arrest.
Gods and Secrets also stars Kellan Lutz and Denise Richards and is expected to be released next year (16).
Salling is currently free on bail and one of his closest friends has told multiple news outlets, the actor is the victim of a hacker, insisting he will be exonerated.
