Adele has been made the bookies favourite to land the Mercury Prize.

The 'Someone Like You' singer is joint 4/1 favourite along with PJ Harvey to take home the accolade from the London-based ceremony in September after it was revealed today (19.07.11) their respective albums '21' and 'Let England Shake' have been nominated for the award.

Rupert Adams of William Hill said: "This has been a year of musical excellence with these albums representing an eclectic range of styles from UK artists.

"This quality is reflected in the closeness of the odds we've given to the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize 'Albums of the Year' - every album here could be a winner."

Other frontrunners include Elbow (5/1) for their 'Build a Rocket Boys' album and Tine Tempah's debut record 'Disc-Overy' is also a 5/1 shot for the award.

Katy B's 'On a Mission', Metronomy's 'The English Riviera'  and Everything Everything's 'Man Alive' are among the other nominations for the gong.
