Rocker Adam Levine has taken to holding up handmade signs promoting the American Red Cross whenever he's snapped by the paparazzi after seeing young Hollywood couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone pull the goodwill stunt in September (12).
The Amazing Spider-Man co-stars and real-life lovers were eating lunch in New York when they spotted a group of photographers gathering outside, so they decided to use the photo opportunity to raise awareness of their favourite causes.
As they emerged from the eatery, Garfield and Stone held up cardboard posters in front of their faces, which read: "We just found out that there were paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. So...Why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it: www.wwo.org and gildasclubnyc.org. Have a good day!"
Levine saw the image published in a magazine and he thought it was genius - so he's decided to take inspiration from the actors to boost donations to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated America's East Coast late last month (Oct12).
The Maroon 5 frontman tells U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, "It's unnatural and strange to be somewhere inconspicuously and then someone shows up and (snaps away) and it's new for me, even though the band had its fame earlier, this is a whole other thing.
"So I thought, 'Well, if it's gonna be a strange annoyance and weird and inconvenient, we should at least do something that maybe could turn into something positive and actually this all came from - I can't remember who it was in the photograph - but they had something, a sign or something, in a publication recently and I thought, 'That is so cool, that they're... turning this into a positive thing', so I decided to join the bandwagon and put something good up there."
The singer was recently photographed holding up his sign, calling on fans to "Text RedCross to 90999" to donate to a good cause.
