Both MATRIX RELOADED and MATRIX REVOLUTIONS have been passed over for the Best Visual Effects ACADEMY AWARD at next year's Oscars.

The original Matrix, which won the Oscar in 1999, revolutionised film special effects with it astounding creation of techniques like 'bullet time'.

But the sequels, which were released this year (03), have disappointed critics and die-hard fans.

And it seems Oscar voters agree - despite their astounding set pieces and battle scenes, the films are conspicuously absent from the shortlist for the award at next year's bash.

On this year's shortlist are HULK, The Lord Of The Rings: THE RETURN OF THE KING, Master And Commander: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD, Peter Pan, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL, X-Men 2 and Terminator 3.

The seven will be whittled down to three nominees, which will be announced on 27 January (04) along with all the other categories.
