Britain's version of the OSCARS - the BAFTAs - has been rescheduled to avoid clashing with the Academy Awards nominees' lunch.
Although the BAFTAs originally stated they would not alter the date, they have since conceded to hold the event on 15 February next year (03) instead of 8 February.
Duncan Kenworthy, chairman of the BRITISH ACADEMY'S FILM COMMITTEE, explains, "The Oscars' nominees' lunch is an enjoyable and traditionally well attended occasion, and the close proximity of the two events would have resulted in those nominated by both the British Academy and the American Academy having to choose between the two.
"We feel that to put nominees in this situation would quite simply be unfair. We hope that this date change will make it more likely that every BAFTA nominee will attend our awards ceremony."09/05/2003 19:32
