Child star Abigail Breslin is an early favourite to land a Best Actress Golden Globe award for acclaimed movie LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, according to Hollywood insiders. Sources tell awards website that Breslin became a hot favourite when Globes organisers at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association agreed Breslin was the standout actress in the hit ensemble film - and, as such, deserved to compete for the Best Actress prize instead of the Best Supporting Actress award. Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced next month (DEC06), but awards insider TOM O'NEIL, who is one of the brains behind, insists young Breslin will be on the list. O'Neil also tips Cate Blanchett and Emma Thompson as the leading contenders for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, while VENUS co-stars PETER O'TOOLE and Richard Griffiths will battle it out for Best Actor for their roles in Venus and HISTORY BOYS respectively. Meanwhile, former American Idol star JENNIFER HUDSON is an early favourite for a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy or Musical honour for her role in DREAMGIRLS, while the star of the film, Beyonce Knowles, is set to land her first Golden Globe in the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, according to the tipsters. Penelope Cruz, who will compete with Breslin for the Best Actress prize, will battle Mel Gibson for Best Foreign Language Film. Cruz's VOLVER is tipped to compete for the prize with Gibson's epic APOCALYPTO, which features a narrative in ancient Mayan.
