Sports specials continued to run counter to the downward trend of most broadcast network ratings as the first two games of the NBA championship series attracted the biggest audience in 16 years and the first three games of the NHL Stanley Cup drew the strongest ratings in six years. Game 2 of the NBA Finals was the top-rated telecast of the week, drawing 15.72 million viewers. Game 1 followed close behind with 14.09 million. The two telecasts were enough to give ABC a win for the week with an average of 7.2 million viewers (4.4 rating and an 8 share), edging out CBS, the usual winner among overall viewers, which slipped to second place with 6.6 million viewers (also translating to a 4.4 rating and an 8 share). NBC, largely on the strength of its summer talent contest America's Got Talent , placed third with 5.7 million (3.4/6), while Fox trailed with 5.1 million (3.2/6). Meanwhile, on Tuesday CBS said that it had completed its upfront sales for next fall. AdWeek quoted sources as saying that the network had achieved price increases of about 9-10 percent.
